Filing. Ugh. We all dislike it. Sure, we love the result of a nicely organized file cabinet. But the task of going through that giant stack of papers you’ve been putting off for months is daunting and just plain not fun. I get it. We all know we should file each week or each day but, seriously, who does that?
So now you have a stack that’s roughly the same size as a small toddler to go through. You’d love to just toss it all in the shredder but you’re pretty sure there is a car registration and your child’s birth certificate somewhere in that stack. So sort and file it is.
I can’t make the task painless for you but I can give you an idea that will actually speed your progress:
Grab your stack and flip it over!
Start from the bottom of the pile – the oldest things. Chances are most of these items are outdated and can be quickly tossed or shredded. The more recent items probably are going to require more attention and action. By clearing out the clutter of the old, outdated things quickly you won’t have such a big task facing you when you get to the harder stuff. It’ll feel less daunting.
